World Water Day

Tuesday March 22 is World Water Day. If you’re not up to speed on what’s happening in the world concerning water, it’s time you started to inform yourself. The statistics are staggering. The crazy part? Americans could bring clean water to every person on the planet with the amount of money we spend in ice-cream every year. You and I have the power to make a difference.

Every 15 seconds or so a child dies of a water born illness. Around 4,000 children die every day from it. That is unbelievable. This is something that I never worry about with my children, I can’t imagine someone dying from something as simple as lack of water. What perpetuates the problem is that 1/3 of all water wells built in the last 20 years are defective. We have a serious, but not insurmountable problem. Let’s do something about it together.

Lori and I are supporters of The Adventure Project, and they are taking on a big task for World Water Day. If they are able to raise $10,000, the Prem Rawat Foundation will match it. (click here to visit their website) That’s $20,000 in one day! This will help WaterAid’s Well Mechanic Program fix hundreds of broken wells, turning water back on for approx 600 people each month.

This would be an incredible feat to accomplish in one day of raising funds. Instead of drilling more wells, they are using the charitable gifts for something revolutionary – to train and employ handpump mechanics. The mechanics earn an income, bringing themselves out of poverty, and they save lives – turning water back on for thousands of people each year.

The Adventure Project is trying to get 100 bloggers to raise $100. I know that we can do this. If you’re reading this blog, please consider contributing to this incredible one day event. Together we really can make a difference! $20 is enough money to turn the water back on for 3 people in India. $20, and you can save someone’s life.
